This Week's Program
LYNN RASMUSSEN
"Growing a High Tech Business on Maui"

Ms. Rasmussen is an author and business coach who has launched a new Maui business. Years ago, while volunteering and then working at Haiku School and co-founding Paia Youth and Cultural Center, she identified a problem: Too many kids do not know their math facts. Her solution is a series of kids math applications for the iPhone and IPod Touch. Arithmaroo 1: A Counting Math Game for Kids was launched. She and her team will launch applications for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing, and also release them in different languages and platforms. In her presentation, Ms. Rasmussen will give examples of two other Maui learning companies, started by women, and how they have evolved. Ms. Rasmussen is a former member of the Rotary Club of Kahului.

Club Assembly - Progress Made this Fiscal Year
Congratulations to all club members for active participation in achieving our club objectives to date. Committee chairs and President Rita Barreras presented a "snap shot" of our club's accomplishments since last July. Mahalo for the input and feedback! The progress report that was handed out at the meeting will be updated and shared at the April 10th District Assembly.
Membership Committee Update - New Member Feedback
Mahalo to Peggy Geddis and Robert Kawahara for attending our new member evaluation / feedback session last Monday! They met with Randy Echito, Membership Committee Chair, Joan Martin, incoming Membership Committee Chair, and President Rita Barreras. We are interested in learning about how to continue to make our club attractive to new and prospective members. Here are key suggestions shared:
- 1) Good Speakers, Interesting Topics
- 2) Current members should make a better attempt to engage with new members or prospects. We should be the welcoming committee.
- 3) Assign new members a duty right away. Get them involved and connected.
- 4) Rotary information/orientation meetings are crucial to engaging and filtering prospects.
- 5) Have a sheet showing cost (all costs) and Duties & Responsibilities. Introduce early in the process.
April 10th District Assembly
It's that time of year when incoming boards of directors gather with District leadership to prepare for the next fiscal year. New members will also benefit from attending this session. Please see President Rita Barreras or President-elect Leslie Mullens if you have questions.
Happy Dollars Club Policy
- Members are encouraged to contribute "happy dollars" at any level for personal announcements (e.g., thank someone, celebrate family, etc.);
- For business announcements members should contribute a minimum of $5;
- Solicitations for "happy dollars" need to come to the board of directors for approval.
