WHAT'S HAPPENING!!?

NINE ROTARY CLUBS JOINED FORCES TO PROVIDE SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR CHILDREN AND TEACHERS ON MAUI   For the third consecutive year, members of the nine Rotary Clubs on Maui manned doors at local businesses to collect school supplies and donations for the children of Maui. Over 51 boxes of school supplies were collected and $4300 in cash donations was received. Each Maui Rotary Club determined the recipients of the supplies and cash donations. As well as distributing the supplies to Maui island schools, monetary donations were distributed to Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Shelter, the Neighborhood Place, the Kihei Youth Center and the Keiki Kupboard Program at five schools. The Rotary Clubs of Maui would like to thank these businesses for allowing members to accept donations: All four Longs locations, Safeway-Kihei, Walmart, Foodland in Kahului, and Office Max, both locations. Rotary club members would also like to recognize the generous contributions of each and every person to donated supplies and cash contributions.   This island-wide School Supplies Drive was one of the many community service projects sponsored by the Rotary Clubs on Maui. The nine clubs on Maui are a part of Rotary Internationals' global network of more than 32,000 clubs in 207 countries. Rotary International consists of 1.2 million professional men and women who, as civic leaders, volunteer to improve the quality of life in their home and world communities.   The Rotary Club of Kahului collected $2,000 in cash donations for teachers to purchase school supplies and a cart load of school supplies for students.  On August 14, 2009 school supplies were delivered to Lihikai Elementary and Kahului Elementary schools.  On August 17, 2009, Community Service Chair, Robert Kawahara, presented school representatives with checks of $1,000 each at the club's weekly meeting.    For information about the Rotary Clubs, contact Assistant District Governors, Paige Fontaine at 269-2967 or Lisa Rodrigues at 281-2904..
