WEINBERG FRIENDS PROJECT 2007 COMPLETED

With the help of several Rotary clubs on Maui, the Kahului Rotary Club completed their Weinberg Friends project for the second year in a row.  On Saturday, August 25th, nearly 55 Rotarians helped put a new face on the old building of the Central Maui Boys and Girls Club to make it match the new building right next door.  Rotarians also removed shelving, painted, cut window opening into a cement wall, painted, weed-wacked, and cleaned gutters, oh and did we mention paint?

Special mahalo to the Rotary Clubs of Kihei-Wailea, Wailuku, UpCountry, Maui, and Kihei Sunrise for their help in this worthy project.  Their partnership was key and their hard work and dedication to Rotary, unwavering.

At the Rotary Club of Kahului's Monday meeting following the project, on behalf of the Weinberg Foundation, Colin Hanlon, Chief Professional Officer for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Maui was presented a check for $10,000 by President Randol Leach and Community Services Chair Jud Cunningham.

The Weinberg Friends program is sponsored by the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc., which is dedicated to assisting the poor, primarily through operating and capital grants to direct service organizations located in Baltimore, Hawaii, Northeastern Pennsylvania, New York, Israel and the Former Soviet Union. These grants are focused on meeting basic needs such as shelter, nutrition, health and socialization and on enhancing an individual’s ability to meet those needs.

The Boys & Girls Club of Maui is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization that operates drop-in service facilities that provide a safe, supportive, non-judgmental, nurturing and supervised environment where youth ages 9 to 17 years old can be themselves, experience positive role models and learn the values and skills that promote success.
